CFAjax Suggest using setMinCharToStartSearch
If you are worried about too much back and forth between client and server, you can set the “setMinCharToStartSearch” of CFAjax suggest to start the suggest after certain number of characters have been entered.

In this example suggestion list will only show up after you have entered two characters in state name field

In order to use this example, move the cursor focus on the text field and enter two inital character of any us state e.g “vi” for Virginia.
